Great advances in producing recycled water have been exemplified in the construction of the Silicon Valley Advanced Water Purification Center (SCAWPC). This collaborative effort by the District and City of San Jose will produce highly purified water for a sustainable and cost-effective recycled water supply through microfiltration, reverse osmosis, and ultraviolet disinfection by May 2013.
The water that goes through this advanced treatment process will be blended with existing recycled water supplies from South Bay Water Recycling and distributed through existing infrastructure and additional pipelines for use in a wider variety of irrigation and industrial purposes. The SVAWPC design allows for potential expansion in order to develop local reliable water supplies to meet future demand.
